The crime drama called “Superfakes” has been commissioned for production by Peacock, according to our information.
The series originates from the mind of creator Alice Ju, who takes on roles as writer, executive producer, and head of production (showrunner). Furthermore, Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie are set to act as executive producers. Additionally, Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke from 3 Arts will also serve as executive producers, with Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush in the same capacity. Ultimately, A24 and UCP will be responsible for production.
According to the given tagline, “Superfakes” is about a petty counterfeiter from Chinatown who ventures into the treacherous depths of an underground market to finance a comfortable lifestyle for his family in the suburbs.
Based on the official summary, “Superfakes” tells the story of a Chinatown-based counterfeiter trying to build a better life for his family by diving into the risky world of an illicit black market.
Previously, Ju was bestowed an Emmy for her role as a producer in the hit Netflix show “Beef”, where she served not only as a writer but also as co-executive producer. Additionally, Ju worked on the acclaimed Peacock series “Poker Face”, starring Natasha Lyonne, taking up roles as both a writer and consulting producer. Besides these, her other accomplishments include contributions to shows like “The Other Two” and “Fantasmas”.
She is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Most recently, the Safdies partnered with A24 for the Showtime series “The Curse,” where they served as executive producers under Elara Pictures. Benny not only played the character Dougie but also co-created and ran the show. A24 was also behind the critically successful movie “Uncut Gems” featuring Adam Sandler. At present, Benny is teaming up with the studio to prepare the film “The Smashing Machine,” which stars Dwayne Johnson, while he’s simultaneously working on “Marty Supreme” starring Timothée Chalamet.
They are all represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME) and Lichter Grossman, with Benny additionally being represented by Untitled Entertainment.
