Peacemaker Went Through Hell In DC Show’s Latest Episode, And Jennifer Holland Shared Why Harcourt Has A ‘Complicated Set Of Emotions’ About What Happened

Warning: SPOILERS for the Peacemaker episode “Back to the Suture” are ahead!

In last week’s episode of *Peacemaker* Season 2, Emilia Harcourt faced a tough dilemma: Rick Flag Sr. ordered her to trick Chris as a way to regain her position at A.R.G.U.S. Jennifer Holland, the actress who plays Harcourt, explained that her character was genuinely conflicted, especially considering Flag Sr. was also responsible for the death of her close friend, Rick Flag Jr., in *The Suicide Squad*. This led to a harrowing experience for Chris in the latest *Peacemaker* episode, and Holland shared that Harcourt is now grappling with a whole new level of complicated feelings.

In the episode “Back to the Suture,” Chris went to the meeting at Kupperberg Park even though Emilia Harcourt had privately warned him not to come. Chris knew agents from A.R.G.U.S. were present and prepared to stop him, but he was determined to understand what their interaction on the boat before Season 2 meant to Harcourt – something that remains a mystery. Jennifer Holland described her reaction as more than just anger, stating:

She was incredibly angry to discover he hadn’t ended things with the other person, despite her efforts. She’d previously warned him by typing the word ‘copacetic’ – it was a signal to stop. She angrily told him he was foolish for not understanding, and accused him of being self-absorbed and unable to listen. She knew he was in serious trouble and couldn’t escape the situation. She’d been trying to protect him, but now regretted not having taken matters into her own hands and potentially saved her own job if he was going to face the consequences anyway. She was intensely frustrated with his behavior in that moment.

When Harcourt rejected Chris’s feelings, he attempted to flee. Sasha Bordeaux almost shot him, acting on Rick Flag Sr.’s orders, but Harcourt intervened, knocking Chris unconscious. Once at A.R.G.U.S., Rick brutally attacked Chris, seeking revenge for his son’s death. John Economos, persuaded by Harcourt, officially arrested Chris, preventing Rick from simply making him vanish.

Rick Flag Sr. told Bordeaux his forceful behavior was a calculated move to locate the dimensional rift created by Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber, but that’s a story for later. The key thing is that after being dismissed from A.R.G.U.S., Chris returned to the cabin where the machine was located, then traveled to another universe to be with an alternate version of Emilia Harcourt, leaving a note to explain his decision. Jennifer Holland, who plays the main Harcourt, shared how her character feels about Chris’s actions.

She’s clearly struggling with a lot of difficult feelings. When she heard his farewell message, she felt incredibly guilty. She doesn’t believe he should be in this other realm, but she also feels responsible for his departure, believing he left because she wasn’t willing to open up more. It’s unclear if this means she still cares for him and wants to reconcile, or if she simply feels a need to fix the situation because she feels partly to blame.

That’s precisely the plan. As Harcourt explains at the end of “Back to the Suture,” she, Economos, Adrian, and Adebayo intend to travel to another universe to rescue Chris. First, they need a new headquarters for the QUC, and then they’ll search for a portal to the other universe. Jennifer Holland concluded this part of our conversation by noting that Harcourt is currently working without a solid plan, simply making things up as she goes.

It seems like she’s going through a difficult time at the moment. She’s acting impulsively and doesn’t seem to have a clear plan, just focusing on immediate action – like trying to take matters into her own hands right now.

Okay, so things just got even more complicated! After losing to Peacemaker, Judomaster somehow found Chris at the cabin and managed to jump through that portal right before it closed. He even left a note for Rick Flag and the ARGUS team when they showed up – basically letting them know something weird is happening in the other universe. It’s clear now that *everyone* knows something’s up, and I’m still convinced that other world is hiding something seriously messed up.

With only three episodes remaining in Season 2 of *Peacemaker*, be sure to tune in to HBO Max next Thursday to see how the story continues. And don’t miss the premiere of *Superman*, the first film in the new DCU, which arrives on the streaming service tomorrow, September 19th.
