Peacemaker Season 2 reveal could change the DCU forever

The finale of Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 may bring about a groundbreaking shift that could significantly alter the landscape of the DC Universe moving forward.

In the DC Universe, Peacemaker functions as a link, carrying forward the narrative from Suicide Squad, while also introducing new characters for upcoming films and developing plotlines related to Superman.

As revealed by writer-director James Gunn, the final three episodes of Season 2 are intended to pave the way for his upcoming movie, titled “Man of Tomorrow”.

Additionally, Gunns included their long-term partner, Michael Rooker, into the project – portraying the character Red St. Wild, a fanatic eagle hunter. In episode 4, Rooker introduced an innovative element to the live-action DC Universe.

Peacemaker Season 2 adds sorcery to the DCU

Towards the close of Season 2’s fourth episode, Red St. Wild makes his way through a forest under the cover of night, stripping off his clothes as he goes. Afterward, he performs what appears to be a traditional Native American dance around a fire, and he creates an eagle design on the ground using his own blood.

As a passionate observer, I watched in awe as magical flames erupted from the fire, revealing an eagle-like image etched on his forehead. With a sense of determination, Wild took flight, pursuing Eagly relentlessly through the air. This thrilling chase ended at Eagly’s hidden lair, signaling that the hunter had successfully found his prey. In that moment, Red St. Wild couldn’t help but exclaim triumphantly, “Got you, mate!

In the Peacemaker podcast, Steve Agee (John Economos) describes how leading up to a particular moment, his character seems comical but then reveals himself to be genuine as he summons some serious business. Essentially, he’s saying that although he appears humorous initially, it becomes clear that he means business later on.

James Gunn agrees, and points out that this is a big moment for magic in his DC Universe.

According to Gunn, he practices magic. In Peacemaker, this marks the debut of magic. While there’s been hints of it in Creature Commandos within the DC Universe, here we witness magic for the first time. He goes by the name Magic Man.

This move paves the way for a greater focus on magic in upcoming DC films, potentially featuring characters like Zatanna, Doctor Fate, John Constantine, and not forgetting Enchantress, who has previously utilized magic in the DCEU but has yet to be introduced in the DCU.
