Patient sued for living rent free in hospital for 5 months after being discharged

A patient in Florida remained at the hospital for five months after being told they could go home, leading Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to threaten legal action. It’s a surprising situation, to say the least.

Most people dislike being hospitalized, and when they do need to go, they generally hope for a quick recovery and a speedy return home.

One patient at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital continued to occupy their room even after being discharged by doctors in October.

Hospital staff were forced to go to court to evict a patient who refused to leave her room after being discharged. The woman, whose name hasn’t been released, remained in room 373, and the hospital requested a court order to remove her. The sheriff’s department was prepared to help with the eviction if necessary.

Discharged patient refused to leave hospital

In late March, the woman finally left, and the hospital decided to withdraw its lawsuit.

According to the New York Post, a court hearing set for March 30th was unexpectedly canceled because the hospital decided to drop the case. They officially informed the court they wouldn’t be pursuing it any further.

Hospital representative Sarah Cannon stated the patient has been discharged from TMH, leading them to close the case.

The hospital also tried to help the woman leave by offering transportation and reaching out to her family for support.

Unlike many others, 82-year-old Chinese farmer Chen Achong made a remarkable journey each day: he traveled for twelve hours just to visit his wife.

For 105 days, a farmer visited his wife in the hospital, and his dedication led them to adjust visiting hours to accommodate him. After she passed away, he shared with CCTV, “My heart is broken. The pain is unbearable, but there was nothing else that could have been done.”
