Park Chan-wook Wraps Production on ‘No Other Choice’ With Star-Studded Cast – Global Bulletin

PASSION PROJECT

Renowned South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook has wrapped up the main shooting for his new movie titled “No Other Choice.” This was announced on Tuesday by distributor CJ ENM, who also shared a sneak peek of the project. Filming for this movie started in August 2024 and it’s scheduled to hit theaters later in the year. This will be Park’s first directorial project since his highly praised “The Decision to Leave” (2022), which won him the Best Director accolade at Cannes Film Festival.

Based on the mystery novel “The Ax” by Donald E. Westlake, the narrative revolves around a middle-aged man named Man-soo who embarks on a relentless job search following his sudden dismissal from his role at a paper company. In this adaptation, Lee Byung-hun plays the lead character of Man-soo, while Son Ye-jin takes on the role of his strong-willed wife A-ra. The impressive cast also features Lee Sung-min (“Handsome Guys”), Yeom Hye-ran (“The Glory”), Cha Seung-won (“Believer 2”), Yoo Yeon-seok (“Hospital Playlist”) and Park Hee-soon (“The Policeman’s Lineage”). This project is a joint production between CJ ENM and Moho Film.

DIGITAL DECEPTION

A three-part documentary series titled “The Catfish Next Door” (working title) is being produced by the BBC, focusing on one of Britain’s most infamous female cyberstalkers – Adele Rennie. Previously a nurse in the NHS, Rennie’s decade-long deception over the internet resulted in several prison sentences. This series, jointly commissioned by BBC Three, BBC Scotland, and BBC iPlayer, will uncover the intricacies of Rennie’s elaborate plans that targeted numerous women in Kilmarnock. The series will reveal her advanced stalking methods, which culminated in a third jail term last year, through firsthand accounts from victims who are collectively sharing their stories publicly for the first time.

A three-part, 45-minute long series, manufactured by STV Studios Factual, delves into the psychological aspects of cyberstalking, the progression of these offenses, and the burgeoning issue of “catfishing” – currently not recognized as a criminal act in the U.K. Craig Hunter, Wendie Ottewill, and Rosy Marshall-McCrae are the executive producers, while Alana McVerry takes on directing duties. Hat Trick International oversees global distribution of the series.

The announcement of the series arrives as Rennie starts her most recent 28-month prison term, which was imposed on September 13, 2024. Alongside this sentence, she also received a 12-month Supervised Release Order and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years.
