Even though the new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution isn’t here for several weeks, fans won’t have to wait to find out what happens next. Paramount+ has already made a decision about the future of the team from the Behavioral Analysis Unit.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show has been renewed for another season, effectively bringing the total to 20. Here’s how the seasons add up: the original Criminal Minds aired for 15 seasons on CBS, then was revived with Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+ two years later. The first season of Evolution was counted as season 16. It can be a bit confusing, but the main takeaway is that Criminal Minds has a long history, and this renewal is a big achievement.
Since Season 19 doesn’t premiere until May 28th, we have no idea what the contestants on Evolution will be facing in Season 20. But we do know that Connor Storrie, from Heated Rivalry, will be making an appearance this season, along with other special guests like Yvette Nicole Brown, Clark Gregg, Justin Kirk, Jeri Ryan, and Paul F. Tompkins.
Paramount+ announced the show will return for another season and shared a first look at Season 19. The new season begins with a mystery – someone goes missing in a case that echoes one from years ago. You can watch a preview here.
The renewal of Criminal Minds: Evolution for a 20th season is welcome news for viewers, but it follows a familiar pattern. Paramount+ previously announced an 18th season before Season 17 even finished airing. In the reliable world of crime dramas, this consistency is reassuring – fans can always count on a new case each week, with the promise of ongoing stories and eventual justice.
The team on Criminal Minds has changed over time, with many characters coming and going. But fans can expect to see the core cast – including Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, RJ Hatanaka, and Adam Rodriguez – together for at least one more season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The latest season of Criminal Minds: Evolution will begin streaming on Paramount+ on May 28, 2026. Don’t miss the premiere!
