‘Paradise’ Premiere Draws 7 Million Views Globally in First Week Across Hulu, Disney+ (EXCLUSIVE)

The drama series “Paradise,” led by Sterling K. Brown and created by the same person behind “This Is Us,” reportedly had a magnificent debut on Hulu, with Disney revealing that it garnered approximately 7 million views in its first nine days of streaming, as EbMaster discovered.

The statistics provided (an unusual release for a streamer who doesn’t typically share viewership data) are from the premiere episode of the “Paradise” series, which unexpectedly premiered on Hulu and Disney+ at 9 p.m. ET on January 26, before the scheduled launch of the first three episodes on January 28. The episode was available for streaming on both Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ within the U.S., as well as internationally on Disney+.

Disney considers a “view” to be the total playtime of an episode relative to its duration. For instance, Episode 1 of “Paradise,” named “Wildcat Is Down,” has a run time slightly over 48 minutes.

To make a comparison, Disney stated that the initial release of “The Bear” Season 3 garnered 5.4 million views within the first four days of streaming in June. However, it’s important to mention that unlike “The Bear,” the first season of “Paradise” did not release all its episodes simultaneously (there are eight episodes in total). Instead, the remaining episodes of “Paradise” will be gradually released each Tuesday on Hulu.

For its debut week, “Paradise” consistently ranked among the top 15 most-watched shows on Hulu, a list that gets refreshed every day.

The series chronicles Secret Service agent Xavier Collins, portrayed by Sterling K. Brown, as he safeguards ex-president Cal Bradford, played by James Marsden, in an idyllic town. In the opening episode, Cal meets his untimely end, leaving Xavier as the prime suspect due to their contentious past.

Disney tried out a new approach for the premiere of “Paradise” by both releasing it on streaming platforms and broadcasting it on TV networks ABC and FX after its initial release. This strategy seemed to pay off, as the series opener attracted an additional 1.4 million viewers according to Live + 5 Day ratings, airing at 10:09 PM on ABC on January 29th. The episode then made its cable debut on FX two days later, attracting around 250,000 viewers during its 10 PM slot as per Live + 2 Day data.

Based on data from Hulu, the TikTok channel for this series has received more views and shares than any other first-season scripted show on Hulu in the last year.

Disney has made a significant effort to market “Paradise” by striking a delicate balance, hinting at a major plot twist in the series while keeping the central secret under wraps until fans discuss it among themselves.
