As a dedicated admirer of Italian cinema, I find myself utterly enthralled by the impending collaboration between maestro Paolo Sorrentino and the inimitable Toni Servillo in their upcoming film, “La Grazia.” The duo’s previous works have left an indelible mark on the international cinematic landscape, with their unique blend of drama, wit, and a profound understanding of the human condition.
Renowned director Paolo Sorrentino, whose current film “Parthenope” has been breaking sales records at the Italian box office, is preparing to step back behind the camera to film “La Grazia,” a drama that will reunite him with actor Toni Servillo, who starred in “The Great Beauty.
Details about the plot of Sorrentino’s upcoming movie remain secret, except that it will be a love story taking place somewhere in Italy. Its title, “La Grazia,” translates to “Grace” in English.
Toni Servillo is widely recognized by global viewers for his outstanding portrayal of Jep Gambardella, a Roman writer and socialite, in “The Great Beauty.” This role led him on a journey reminiscent of Dante’s descent, set amid the decadent high society of Rome. The film went on to win the 2014 Academy Award for Best International Film.
The actor from Naples has featured in seven out of the ten films directed by Sorrentino so far, beginning with his striking first appearance in “One Man Up,” where Servillo portrayed an aging, cocaine-dependent singer. Among other prominent roles in Sorrentino’s movies, Servillo also played a mob accountant addicted to heroin in “The Consequences of Love”; the controversial Italian politician Giulio Andreotti in “Il Divo”; and the media tycoon turned politician Silvio Berlusconi in Sorrentino’s “Loro.
As a movie enthusiast eagerly looking ahead to 2025, I am thrilled to announce that the highly anticipated film “La Grazia,” penned by the visionary Sorrentino, will commence its production in Spring of that year. Annamaria Morelli, the dynamic chief executive at The Apartment (a Fremantle-owned entity), will be producing this masterpiece for us. Moreover, Numero 10 – Sorrentino’s own creative powerhouse – will also join forces with us on this project.
The film “Parthenope” by director Sorrentino, a heartfelt tribute to his hometown Naples, has been thriving at the Italian box office. Since its release on October 24, it has earned over €7.4 million ($7.7 million), making it the most successful local film of the year so far in Italy and surpassing the box office success of Sorrentino’s previous work, “The Great Beauty.
The movie titled “Parthenope” will be available in the United States starting February 7, whereas it is scheduled to debut in France on January 8 by Pathé.
