There are few movies that come with almost unanimous praise, a bounty of awards, and a legacy that has not diminished over the last 51 years, but Chinatown is that enigma. Released in 1974, Chinatown was, first and foremost, a box office hit, with its budget of $6 million being turned into a $29 million gross. However, it was much more than just a cinematic hit, it was – as was confirmed in 1991 with its preservation in the US National Film Registry at the Library of Congress – a movie that had “cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance.” For many people, it could have all three. What is Chinatown actually about? The synopsis reads:

Although fans still love the movie True Lies, a sequel hasn’t been made, but Jamie Lee Curtis hasn’t given up hope. I’m so excited about this new show! Gregg Henry is playing Henry Kendall Thaw, and Drew Anderson is his wife, Evelyn Nesbit. Apparently, their relationship is pretty intense – the show is called The Artist, and Drew was talking about filming her very first scene with Gregg. She said they literally met about ten minutes before they started! Nobody really knew what to expect from each other’s portrayal of the characters. Then, suddenly, they were smashing glass and breaking the bed! She said that’s when it really hit her – they were really going for it and fully immersed in the roles. It sounds amazing!
