With the film now reaching a new generation of viewers on streaming platforms, it’s a great time to revisit the role that launched her into stardom.

The episode starts after a quick, pretty shot of Lisa setting up for a Sundance party. We then see Bronwyn having lunch with Todd, who seems unintentionally caught up in filming the show. She shares that her parents are facing health challenges: her father recently moved into a memory care facility, and her mother is recovering at home after brain tumor surgery. To make matters worse, Lisa Barlow is giving her a hard time, but Todd advises her to ignore it. However, I found myself distracted by a strange close-up of Todd adding a Splenda packet to his (likely) iced tea. This led me to notice how the drink level visibly changes throughout the scene due to editing. These kinds of continuity errors are a reminder that skilled people are working behind the scenes, and it’s a mystery why they chose to highlight that Splenda packet.

This sense of freedom also reflects Lee’s unique and compelling personality: he shapes his own destiny, lives life at his own speed, and doesn’t bother with schedules. He’s a store owner who doesn’t make sales, and a writer who avoids a desk. In “Dinosaur Memories,” Lee is kidnapped-in a strange but believable way-for the second time in just three episodes. He isn’t rich, a spy, or an important witness in a legal case, so why does it feel so natural that he’d be abducted twice so quickly? The show is really a deep look at a character, disguised as a murder mystery.

At the very least, these shonen anime avoid unnecessary filler or recap episodes, meaning viewers can be confident that each episode moves the story forward. This creates a seamless and enjoyable viewing experience, and sometimes, the writing is so tight that every scene is important. These series are full of compelling content, demonstrating just how well-made and skillfully executed shonen anime can be.
