Critics are giving Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake very positive reviews, currently holding an 85 Metascore on Metacritic. This release finishes Square Enix’s remake of the classic Erdrick Trilogy. If you’re new to these remakes, it’s recommended to play last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake first, as its story takes place earlier in the timeline. I’m still employed and able to expand my work thanks to the wealth of JRPG titles available on older consoles like the SNES, PlayStation 1, and PlayStation 2, including those that were never released outside of Japan.

Netflix has been working to expand into gaming for a while now, but as Amazon recently demonstrated, it’s a challenging undertaking, even for large, well-funded companies. To be fair, Netflix already offers a solid library of mobile games with a subscription—including popular indie titles like Hades, Dead Cells, Terra Nil, Oxenfree, Monument Valley, and Moonlighter. However, these are games available on Netflix, not games made by Netflix. Developing their own games hasn’t progressed as easily.

Both versions of the game will be available for purchase at retail in limited quantities, with pre-orders open now. The special ‘Signature Edition’ includes unique cover art, a protective slipcase, an interview booklet, four art cards, and other extras. The Signature Edition costs £59.99, while the standard version is priced at £29.99.

Shinichi Manabe is leading this project. He previously led programming on Rune Factory 3 and directed Rune Factory 4, but now runs ManaGames and is developing this game independently. Joining him is Takanori Tsuji, who wrote the story for both Rune Factory 3 and 4.
