The first story DLC for Pacific Drive, Whispers in the Woods, is available now, letting players venture back into the Olympic Exclusion Zone. Along with the expansion’s release, Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive have also brought the game to Xbox Series X|S.
This expansion adds a new story and content that’s about a third as long as the original game. Players can also expect to find new anomalies and frightening creatures.
The expansion introduces new ways to play, including the Whispering Tide – a dangerous force that intensifies the longer you stay in the Whispering Woods. To survive, you’ll need to modify your station wagon with special equipment that can protect against it. You’ll also discover artifacts at Altars, which grant powerful abilities that can change both the world around you and yourself.
When Pacific Drive launched last year, it quickly stood out. This indie survival game expertly combines a tense, atmospheric experience with a surprisingly relaxing feeling as you drive through a mysterious and eerie part of the Pacific Northwest, all from the comfort of your car.
Mark Delaney of TopMob calls Pacific Drive a standout game of 2024, praising its rich story and engaging gameplay. He notes the game successfully establishes itself within the ‘New Weird’ genre while still offering a unique experience. While challenging, the game includes difficulty settings to make it more accessible. Delaney jokingly contrasts his real-life preference for regular bike rides with the thrilling, yet demanding, journey offered by Pacific Drive.
