Overwatch’s new Jetpack Cat hero is so OP she’s getting banned

Jetpack Cat has quickly become very popular in Overwatch, but she’s proving to be so powerful that many competitive players are already choosing not to allow her in their games.

So, Overwatch’s Season 1 dropped a huge update, and they added five new characters all at once! I’ve been loving Jetpack Cat – seriously, this flying cat is awesome. You can use him to soar around the map, heal teammates, dish out damage, and even reposition other players – it totally changes how you move around the battlefield!

She’s quickly become a popular choice for players, often selected as a Support character because of her adaptability and usefulness in many situations.

If you were planning on using her to climb the competitive ladder, you’ll be disappointed – players are already banning her in every match.

Jetpack Cat is virtually unplayable in Overwatch competitive

In competitive matches, teams take turns banning one hero each before the game starts, removing them from play. Since Jetpack Cat was released on February 10th, she’s become the most frequently banned hero, and many players are complaining about it, asking teams to choose other heroes to ban instead.

One Reddit user called players who consistently vote to ban the “Jetpack Cat” character in competitive games “boring losers.” Another user pointed out that, during an eight-hour gaming session, the character wasn’t banned in a single match.

An upset player took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask about the availability of the “Jetpack Cat” skin. They explained that after playing ranked matches for ten hours, the skin was banned in every single game they played.

This trend became so popular that even the official Overwatch account noticed, playfully tweeting: “Please don’t ban Jetpack Cat!”

Players often avoid choosing Jetpack Cat in their games for a few reasons. One main issue is that, as a flying character with a small target, she can be very difficult to defeat when she’s in the air.

The biggest issue is Symmetra’s Ultimate ability, called Catnapper. It allows her to quickly drop to the ground and attach herself to the closest enemy. Players are exploiting this by grabbing opponents and dropping them off the map, which instantly eliminates them.

Jetpack Cat is particularly good at quickly defeating Tanks, which are normally difficult to eliminate due to their high health and the healers protecting them. A single, well-timed Ultimate ability can take them down in seconds.

She’s not the first hero players have tried to block from being selected. When the game first allowed voting on which heroes could be played, characters like Sombra and Widowmaker were also frequently banned, causing some players to choose different characters to focus on.

This situation will likely persist until players discover a way to beat Jetpack Cat, or the game developers make it less powerful in an upcoming update.
