Blizzard is launching a major update to Overwatch, and with it comes a wave of five new playable characters all released simultaneously.
During the Spotlight 2026 presentation, the developers shared their plans for the next year, including simplifying the game’s name to just ‘Overwatch.’ They also unveiled “The Reign of Talon,” a brand-new, ongoing story that will kick off with Season 1 on February 10th.
This new story update for the popular hero shooter will introduce five new playable characters – the largest single addition of heroes since Overwatch 2 launched in 2022.
Five new heroes coming to Overwatch with more to follow
All five of these heroes will arrive in-game with the Season 1 update on February 10, and they are:
- Domina (Tank)
- Emre (Damage)
- Mizuki (Support)
- Anran (Damage)
- Jetpack Cat (Support)
These characters are central to the continuing story of the conflict between Overwatch and Talon. Domina, Emre, and Mizuki will be fighting for Talon, and Anran and Jetpack Cat will be helping Overwatch.
So, like always, each character plays totally differently. I’m really digging Emre – he’s a straight-up soldier with a powerful burst rifle. Domina’s awesome because she can lock down areas with these super strong barriers, and Mizuki is a bit of a wildcard – she’s a healer, but she also has this crazy spinning blade attack that can really hurt people!
Anran controls fire to gain an edge in battle, and Jetpack Cat provides aerial support, even carrying teammates to different locations.
If you’re familiar with the Overwatch story, you might recognize these characters. Domina appeared in a recent animated short about Vendetta, and Anran is the older sister of Wuyang, who has fire powers and was featured in the “Elemental Kin” trailer, where she received an Overwatch invitation.
Emre has been a highly anticipated hero since he was first hinted at in 2018. Jetpack Cat is another character players have been eagerly awaiting – the idea was originally developed but then cancelled, and fans have been requesting its return ever since.
You can try out the hero Anran before her official release! A free trial will be available from February 5th to February 10th, giving you five days to learn how to play her before the other new heroes become available.
And that’s not all! Blizzard announced during their recent event that they’re planning to add five more heroes before 2026 ends, bringing the total number of new heroes this year to ten.
