Overwatch finally reveals Jetpack Cat backstory & players think she’s a villain

Blizzard recently shared details about Jetpack Cat‘s history in Overwatch, and many players are now questioning her motives.

Overwatch’s major Season 1 update added five new heroes to the game. One of the most popular so far is Jetpack Cat, a hero who flies using a jetpack. They can stay in the air, heal teammates, and quickly move them around the map.

Most new heroes have detailed backstories that explain their origins, but the cat hero’s past remains largely unknown.

Things changed when Blizzard released a video featuring Brigitte, who explained how a cat ended up piloting a mech and becoming a member of the team.

Jetpack Cat’s backstory has Overwatch fans suspicious

Brigitte found a sweet kitten while exploring the landing bay of Watchpoint: Gibraltar, nestled amongst some rocket components. Inspired by her discovery, she decided to get Fika, as she named the cat, ready for action, revisiting some of her older projects to do so.

The story draws heavily from the real history of Jetpack Cat, a project that was first cancelled but later brought back to life.

Some viewers believe there’s a hidden meaning or deeper story related to Fika, based on a few clues in the video.

The story didn’t explain how the cat even got inside Overwatch headquarters without anyone noticing. Plus, it showed her accidentally ‘solving’ a science issue by knocking over plans, hinting she’s unusually smart for a cat.

Since the video was shared, people on Reddit have been speculating about the identity of Jetpack Cat.

One player speculated that the cat is actually a villain or spy, suggesting she might be a highly intelligent animal from the Lunar Colony. Another player agreed, confidently stating she’s a villain originating from the Horizon Lunar Colony.

I was reading the comments, and someone pointed out that Moira has this line where she talks about being smart. It makes you wonder if she’s starting to figure out more about where she actually came from, you know?

The Horizon Lunar Colony was a research base on the moon. Scientists there studied how living for long periods in space affected people and animals, and this research ultimately led to the creation of Winston and Wrecking Ball.

It’s likely Fika was involved at some point in the past. Regardless, Blizzard has a lot of exciting content planned this year, including new story videos, so we might see Jetpack Cat become an important part of the story down the line.
