Overwatch 2 Studio Says Its “Boldest Ideas” Will Come To Life In 2026

Blizzard, the company behind Overwatch, has hinted that 2026 will see the release of its most ambitious and innovative projects yet.

Blizzard announced in a recent blog post that they’re excited to focus more on story and characters in the game. They’re looking forward to sharing these new experiences with players and feel very positive about the future, predicting that 2026 will be a year of big achievements and innovative ideas.

Blizzard hasn’t revealed any specifics yet, but 2026 will be Overwatch’s 10th anniversary, so they likely have special events planned to celebrate.

In the same post, Blizzard also shared some thoughts on the past year, noting that 2025 was a particularly strong year for the Overwatch team.

Seeing how the industry was changing, we decided to take some big chances and really try to make a difference instead of sticking with what was comfortable,” the developer explained. “Our players have responded incredibly well, and we believe we now have an even stronger connection with them.

Blizzard highlighted the successful return of Overwatch 2 to China as a key achievement in 2025. Even while the game was unavailable there, the community stayed dedicated, hosting their own events, creating fan content, and continuing to support Overwatch esports. This strong community spirit demonstrated the game’s power to connect people and its importance beyond just playing, making Blizzard optimistic about the future.

In 2026, Blizzard will celebrate its 35th anniversary, and company president Johanna Faries promises it will be their most exciting year to date. They’re planning a big return for BlizzCon in September 2026, where they’ll reveal several important updates and announcements.
