Overwatch 2 Season 15: Revolutionary Perks System Set to Transform Gameplay

Overwatch 2 has just seen a major gameplay shift announced by Blizzard after a long time, which takes the shape of a brand-new Perk system designed to impact the course of battles significantly.

Over the past decade since its launch, Overwatch has undergone numerous alterations in how matches are played. Some examples include the implementation of role lock and the shift towards a 5-versus-5 setup in its sequel.

Ever since that point, the core gameplay hasn’t seen much change, but the developers keep things fresh by introducing fresh faces as playable characters, diverse landscapes for battles, and innovative game modes on a regular basis.

In Season 15, there’s an exciting twist: a completely new Perks system has been introduced, which is said to be the most substantial change to the core gameplay mechanics since 2016.

In-game Perks coming to OW2 Quick Play & Competitive

At the Spotlight event held on February 12th, unique benefits tied to characters were unveiled. These perks become active during a game and persist until the game is over. The main distinction lies in their permanence – once acquired, they hold through for the rest of the match.

Each hero comes with four distinct abilities that can be picked during gameplay, similar to Fortnite’s Augment system in Chapter 4. At the start of the match, you get the chance to select two Minor Perks, which provide minor enhancements to a character’s current skills. For example, Lucio might receive an upgrade boosting his Soundwave knockback effect.

Later on during the game, you’ll encounter a decision where you can pick one out of two Major Perks. These perks have significant impact on the gameplay and sometimes even give characters new skills.

Example: The ability “Dire Triggers” for character “Reaper” introduces a unique mid-range assault, enabling him to eliminate foes who manage to elude the reach of his shotguns.

Or simply: With “Dire Triggers,” Reaper gains a new mid-range attack, allowing him to take down enemies that dodge his shotgun range.

The objective is to enhance the strategic complexity for every character and add a layer of richness to each game through significant real-time decisions. It’s your call to choose the Perk that will exert the most influence over the course of the game, considering your team’s performance and the troublesome opponents on the enemy side.

Essentially, this significant update applies to both Quick Match and Competitive modes, meaning players who aim to advance their standing must adapt to this new system.

To fully witness the new Perks in operation, we’ll need to hold our patience until Overwatch 2 Season 15, which begins on February 18. Keep in mind that these changes might significantly influence the gameplay dynamics, or the “meta,” as it’s commonly referred to, moving forward.
