What Fans Can Expect for ‘Outlander’ Season 8

STARZ

The seventh season of Outlander ended with several surprising and unresolved storylines. Roger and Brianna, along with their children Jemmy and Mandy, return to Lallybroch in Scotland in 1739. Instead of going back to the 1980s, the family decides to join Claire and Jamie in 1778 at Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina. Elsewhere, Rachel discovers she’s pregnant, and the beloved dog Rollo sadly passes away, deeply affecting Ian. Meanwhile, William asks Jamie for help finding Jane, but they tragically learn she has taken her own life. Jamie and Claire then decide to care for Jane’s younger sister, Frances, and bring her with them to Fraser’s Ridge.

Before this, Claire hears Frances singing an old song, “I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,” which is strange because Frances is too young to know it. Claire remembers singing that same song while holding her deceased daughter, Faith, back in Season 2. Frances explains her mother used to sing it to her, suggesting Faith didn’t actually die and that Frances is Claire and Jamie’s granddaughter – just like their late daughter, Jane.

As for Season 8, here’s a synopsis per STARZ:

The eighth season opens with Jamie and Claire returning to Fraser’s Ridge to find their settlement has grown into a bustling community. But the war has followed them, and they must decide how much they’re willing to risk to protect their home and, most importantly, each other. While they present a strong front against external threats, long-held family secrets begin to surface, threatening to divide them. Though they hoped to leave the fighting behind, their struggle for Fraser’s Ridge is just beginning.

The upcoming season will likely bring Jamie and Claire back together as they deal with the shocking news about Frances from last season. We’ll also see Ian and Rachel’s family grow, and get a look at how the Revolutionary War impacts Lord John Grey and William. Adding to the drama, a book suggests Jamie will die in the Battle of Kings Mountain soon. Based on the trailer, viewers can expect a thrilling, but emotionally intense, final season.
