Outer Banks may be renewed for a season this year, but the creator’s other series is not doing well.
Jonas Pate created Outer Banks and has also worked as a producer on shows like Surface and Good & Evil. He recently created and ran The Runarounds for Prime Video, another drama series featuring teens in the main roles.
According to Deadline, the show The Runarounds has been canceled after only one season. Reports suggest the decision was made quietly several months ago.
The show is facing some changes after its lead actress, Lilah Pate (daughter of the series creator), landed a major role in the upcoming spinoff, Frisco King. Because this new series is expected to be a significant project, Pate likely won’t be able to return for future seasons of The Runarounds.
The show’s cancellation follows accusations of misconduct against Jonas Pate. In October 2025, actor Chase Stokes publicly stated he saw Pate act aggressively towards a production assistant while filming.
According to Stokes, Pate was physically and verbally aggressive towards the production assistant, reportedly grabbing and shaking them. Stokes said they had to step in because the behavior was severe. Several sources suggest this kind of behavior from Pate was common on set, which raises further concerns.
Even though there’s been controversy, no one has taken any legal steps against Pate so far. Production on season 5 of Outer Banks continued as planned, and it’s still expected to be released later this year.
Although the cancellation of The Runarounds wasn’t officially tied to the issues surrounding Pate, the timing suggests a possible connection. The show was released on September 1, 2025, and the accusations came out in late October. However, without more information, it’s impossible to say for sure if the two events were related.
Even though the TV show The Runarounds has been canceled, the story isn’t over for the band at its heart. The show followed a group of recent high school grads forming a rock band, and featured musicians William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher – who are all continuing to perform together. They’re currently on tour, with dates scheduled through June.
