Luke Nichols, the creator of the popular YouTube channel Outdoor Boys, has been seen online again. He appeared in a photo shared by a fishing store in Japan, marking his first online appearance in some time.
On March 7th, Fishing Max Kyoto posted a photo on Instagram of a customer, Nichols, with one of their staff members. Nichols, who was visiting from Alaska, had just bought a salmon fishing rod and reel at the store.
The surprising appearance quickly went viral on social media, and fans immediately started asking the creator to come back to YouTube after a long period of inactivity.
Outdoor Boys creator stepped back from YouTube in 2025
I’ve been a big fan of Nichols for ages! He created this amazing YouTube channel called Outdoor Boys, all about camping, surviving in the wilderness, learning bushcraft skills, and fishing. It totally blew up – he got over 10 million subscribers and his videos have been viewed hundreds of millions of times! It’s awesome to see so many people getting into the outdoors thanks to his content.
Starting in 2025, Nichols began posting videos less often and took a break from consistently creating content. He explained in a video that he wanted to prioritize spending more time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities with his children, rather than keeping up with a busy upload schedule.
Since stepping back from regularly creating YouTube videos, Nichols has popped up now and then in photos and posts shared by fans or businesses he’s checked out, but he hasn’t started consistently posting on the Outdoor Boys channel again.

Okay, so I was checking out the latest from Fishing Max Kyoto, and I was surprised to actually see the developer! It’s been ages since there’s been a clear public photo of them, so this was a cool find.
We had a visitor all the way from Alaska! They bought a fishing rod and reel to use for salmon fishing, and we hope they have fun fishing with their kid!
The post quickly gained tens of thousands of likes and comments, as people recognized the person in the image and started sharing it across the internet.
One commenter also replied to the post saying, “Wooow. That is actually a very famous YouTuber!!!”
The popular photo has sparked a lot of discussion among fans about whether Nichols might start making videos again, but he hasn’t said anything about coming back to his channel yet.
