Oscars 2025: The Biggest Snub You Won’t Believe

Among the announced Oscar nominees, a particular omission has left an especially bitter sting compared to others.

2025‘s Oscar nominations present a variety of reactions. Leading the pack is Emilia Pérez with an impressive 13 nominations, followed closely by The Brutalist and Wicked, each earning 10 nominations.

The Conclave made eight nominations, yet Edward Berger was missing from the director category, implying that his film took charge of its own direction.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the sting of this year’s Oscar snubs, particularly in the acting categories where talented ladies like Angelina Jolie (as Maria) and Nicole Kidman (Babygirl) were overlooked. However, it’s clear that the real loser here is the Best Movie Score category, as an exceptional score has undoubtedly been left out of the race.

Challengers nowhere to be scene in the Best Score category

Among the outstanding films of 2024, the tennis-themed drama “Challengers” stood out as one of the finest, boasting an exceptional and unparalleled soundtrack. However, it didn’t receive a nomination at the Academy Awards, with the shortlist for Best Original Score appearing as follows:

  • The Brutalist
  • Conclave
  • Emilia Pérez
  • Wicked
  • The Wild Robot

Let’s make it clear that the scores mentioned are all outstanding. John Powell and Stephen Schwartz enhance the songs in Wicked exceptionally, while Clément Ducol and Camille also impress with their contributions to Emilia Pérez. In contrast, Daniel Blumberg’s Brutalist score is as powerful and dramatic as Volker Bertelmann’s Conclave work is subtle and refined.

In terms of the TopMob team’s perspective, other works simply don’t measure up to the Challengers score created by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Notably, this masterpiece was justly awarded at the Golden Globes.

The rhythmic electronic soundtrack they’ve created is strongly reminiscent of 1990s rave music and German techno, offering a heart-pounding backdrop to the intriguing love triangle involving tennis players Tashi (Zendaya), Art (Mike Faist), and Patrick (Josh O’Conner).

However, the exhilarating rhythms soar particularly in the tennis scenes and are most evident during the film’s pivotal match, which stands among the best sports sequences ever filmed. This is largely due to the high stakes for the characters and groundbreaking visual effects that flawlessly blend actor heads onto tennis players’ bodies.

However, credit is also given to the contributions of Reznor and Ross, who manage to electrify this dramatic moment, compelling us to label their music as “simply flawless” in our Challengers critique.

This blunderous oversight transforms it into the most notable Oscar omission by the Academy in 2025. As for the film, its exclusion from both the Best Picture and Director nominations is a topic of considerable discussion…
