As a devoted fan, I’m reassured by the efforts of Dean Butler and Alison Arngrim to allay fears that the upcoming reboot of “Little House on the Prairie” won’t damage the prestige of the cherished 1974 series we all love.
In a recent interview with Remind, Arngrim (who portrayed Nellie Oleson in the original “Little House” series) shared that she’s encountered two main responses from fans regarding the reboot: “Fans either enthusiastically support it, exclaiming ‘Oh my God, yay! A reboot! It’s the best thing ever. The second coming.’ Or they strongly oppose it, stating ‘No, no, no! Not a reboot! The show is flawless. Leave it alone.’
Arngrim made it clear that the upcoming series isn’t exactly a re-run or remake, as it is intended to be a truer adaptation of Laura Wilder’s original books compared to the previous TV show. She believes this will reassure fans who are purists of “Little House.
Arngrim assured that the production will not veer off course and become strange, as feared by some. She also mentioned that if anything appears unusual during development, Executive Producer Trip Friendly – son of the original “Little House on the Prairie” producer Ed Friendly – would halt the project before it airs to prevent any such occurrences.
Originally cast as Almanzo, Butler clarified that the upcoming series won’t aim to replicate the work of Michael Landon, its original creator. Instead, it promises to offer a fresh, updated viewing experience tailored for today’s audiences.
Butler stated, ‘What Michael did can’t be replicated.’ Michael was unlike anyone else, possessing a distinctively creative influence and an enchanting connection with his audience. While the creative team on the upcoming show might also captivate audiences in their own unique way, they will offer a different kind of charm and it won’t be the same as Michael’s.
At the conclusion of the interview, Arngrim made it clear that none of the initial cast members will be part of the reboot. However, she expressed her willingness to make a brief appearance in the new series.
For years, I’ve been playfully suggesting that I’ve reached the right age to portray Mrs. Oleson. Now, go ahead and invite me,” she expressed.
Back in January, it was confirmed that Netflix would be producing a new version of “Little House on the Prairie.” Rebecca Sonnenshine has been appointed as the show’s leader and will also serve as one of its top executives, along with Susanna Fogel, Danna Fox, and Trip Friendly. CBS Studios and Anonymous Content are the companies responsible for producing this reboot.
