Original ‘Game of Thrones’ Star’s “Anxiety” Won’t Let Them Watch Any Spin-Offs

HBO Max has launched a new prequel to Game of Thrones, called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and it’s already receiving positive reviews and high ratings. While fans seem eager to revisit the world of Westeros, one actor from the original series admits she can’t bring herself to watch any of the spin-offs.

Sophie Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, has said she doesn’t intend to watch the new Game of Thrones series. Speaking with journalist James B. Street at the premiere of her new show Steal on Prime Video, Turner admitted that even the show’s theme song makes her anxious. “Honestly, I just can’t bring myself to watch anything Game of Thrones related,” she explained.

The series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms doesn’t use the iconic Game of Thrones theme song because it’s a more intimate story and the song wouldn’t fit the tone. However, actress Emilia Clarke’s difficulties with revisiting the show go beyond just the music. She explained, “I had a wonderful time on Game of Thrones, but I simply can’t bring myself to watch anything connected to it.”

After ten years of demanding work on Game of Thrones, it’s understandable that Sophie Turner wants a break from that world. While she won’t be tuning in to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, she’s fully supportive of the cast and crew. “I’m thrilled for the actors and think it will be amazing – it’s still that universe, so I wish everyone the best,” she explained. “I won’t be watching personally, but I’m cheering them on.”

The series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, a new knight eager to prove himself in a tournament, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire, Egg. Game of Thrones helped launch the careers of actors like Jason Momoa, Pedro Pascal, and Emma D’Arcy (who played Rhaenyra Targaryen), so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for these two performers.

I’ve been following Emilia Clarke’s career since Game of Thrones, and it’s cool to see her taking on so many different roles. Her new show, Steal, isn’t exactly a critical darling, but she’s definitely leading the charge, and all episodes are available now. But the big news for me is she’s going to be Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider series on Prime Video – that’s a huge role! Interestingly, while she’s understandably moved on from anything Game of Thronesrelated, she’s open to revisiting that kind of world. She’s even teaming up with Kit Harington (aka Jon Snow!) in a gothic horror film called The Dreadful* coming out in February, which I’m already excited about.
