Original Firefly cast to reprise roles in new animated series

Nathan Fillion announced that the actors from the original Firefly series will be back for a new animated show.

The project, created by Fillion under his Collision33 company with 20th Television Animation, is well underway. A script has been finished, and concept art has been developed by ShadowMachine.

At Awesome Con on March 15th, Nathan Fillion announced that all eight of the original main cast members will return to voice their characters.

Live panel announcement gives details on the project

For the first time since the movie Serenity in 2005, the entire main cast of Firefly – including Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Summer Glau, and Adam Baldwin – is coming back together for new material.

This series takes place between the events of the original 2002 television season and the movie Serenity (2005), ensuring everything fits together seamlessly.

Nathan Fillion, the star and producer, recently shared with Deadline that the continued passion of ‘Firefly’ fans has kept the show alive for the past 25 years. He believes bringing the show back is not just something fans want, but something they’ve earned.

This is the buildup of weeks of teasing from Fillion after his viral series of social media shorts.

Fillion created a lot of buzz by posting short, viral videos online. In each video, he pretended to knock on the doors of his fellow cast members and simply said, “It’s time.” These videos quickly gained millions of views and got everyone talking, building anticipation before the official news was released.

The project is now being pitched to potential buyers, with Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters serving as showrunners.
