Oreo is releasing a new version of its classic cookie with zero sugar! It took four years to develop, and these cookies – available in both classic and Double Stuf – will hit stores in the US this January.
On December 9th, Mondelez revealed its new Oreo cookies will be a permanent part of the Oreo lineup. These cookies have a slightly updated design – the chocolate wafers now have “Zero Sugar” printed on them, which is the first significant visual change to the brand in years.
Mondelez, the maker of Oreos, spent about four years developing a sugar-free version that still tastes like the original, according to USA Today. The company is targeting customers who want a treat without the sugar, but don’t want a cookie that feels like a diet food.
What are Zero Sugar Oreos made of?
The updated Oreo Zero Sugar recipe no longer includes aspartame. To sweeten the cookies, it now uses a blend of maltitol, polydextrose, sucralose, and ace-k. The packaging is changing too – instead of the usual plastic tray, these cookies will come in a resealable, stand-up pouch.
These new cookies have around 45 calories each, which is slightly fewer than the 53 calories in a regular Oreo. You can buy a 20-cookie bag on Oreo’s website now for $5.29 before they become widely available in January 2026.

Over the past few years, Oreo has been trying out some unique and unexpected ideas. Just recently, in 2024, they partnered with Coca-Cola for a flavor exchange – resulting in Oreos that taste like Coke and a Coke-flavored soda inspired by Oreos.
Oreo recently created a buzz with a special Thanksgiving collection of flavors, including Pumpkin Pie, Cranberry Sauce, Turkey & Stuffing, Creamed Corn, Sweet Potato, and Caramel Apple Pie.
The new Zero Sugar Oreos represent a major change for the brand. Oreo believes this sugar-free cookie, which promises the same great taste as the original, will attract a new group of customers and stand out in stores.
