OpenAI responds after man arrested for throwing motolov cocktail at CEO’s home

Police arrested a man in San Francisco early Friday morning for allegedly throwing a firebomb at the home of Sam Altman.

Police responded to a report of a firebomb thrown at a home near Chestnut and Jones streets in San Francisco’s Russian Hill neighborhood around 3:43 AM, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Police haven’t released the homeowner’s name, but OpenAI has confirmed the property is owned by Sam Altman. OpenAI also stated that the suspect has been taken into custody and that the company is cooperating with the investigation.

According to an OpenAI spokesperson who spoke with the New York Post, someone threw a firebomb at Sam Altman’s house early this morning and also threatened the company’s San Francisco office.

We’re relieved to report that everyone is safe. We’re very grateful for the swift response of the SFPD and the city’s support in protecting our employees. The person involved has been taken into custody, and we are cooperating fully with the police investigation.

This property features two homes and a newly built, modern extension as part of a renovation. It includes a stunning infinity pool with city views, a detached wellness studio, and a unique garage entered through a tunnel.

People need to understand the potential harm of exaggerated statements, particularly because similar situations have led to negative outcomes in the past.
