Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are back to solving mysteries in their apartment building! Hulu has ordered a sixth season of Only Murders in the Building, which will consist of ten episodes, just like previous seasons. This time, however, the story will take the trio to London. Fans are wondering if Selena Gomez’s character, Mabel, will enjoy British cuisine like beans on toast, if Martin Short’s Oliver will thrive in London’s West End theater scene, and if Steve Martin’s Charles-Haden will gain recognition for his show Brazzos in the UK.
The show has been renewed for another season, announced on the day the fifth season concluded. The finale finds the main characters – Mabel, Oliver, and Charles – listening to a podcast hosted by Cinda Canning (Tina Fey). Canning is investigating a mysterious case in the UK involving a young woman with fiery red hair, who is suspected of murdering someone connected to royalty. Canning believes the woman is innocent and even helped her escape to America. The episode then cuts to this same woman being found dead right outside their apartment building, the Arconia, reaching for the gate – setting the stage for Mabel, Oliver, and Charles to investigate her death.
Last season was full of famous faces, including returning Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. The cast also grew to include more Academy Award winners like Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and Dianne Wiest. At this point, the show would need to add even bigger stars – like Emma Stone, Adrien Brody, and maybe even a legendary classic like Katharine Hepburn – to raise the bar any further.
