As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the announcement of Onimusha Way of the Sword at The Game Awards has sent shivers of excitement down my spine! Ever since I first swung Samanosuke’s legendary sword back in 2001, I’ve been a dedicated fan of this franchise that seamlessly blends historical Japanese lore with a dash of the supernatural.
During The Game Awards, it was unveiled that Onimusha Way of the Sword marks the first new installment in the series since 2006. Capcom announced this title with an enticing cinematic trailer and indicated that it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2026.
The preview depicts numerous fiery red embers drifting through various feudal Japanese settings, subsequently merging with the main character. Scenes suggesting gameplay combat are interspersed, highlighting third-person action against diverse supernatural adversaries, such as corrupted samurais and colossal creatures, including a formidable, bipedal boar-like enemy.
We’re big fans of a game series that blends martial arts with a hauntingly beautiful Japanese mythology backdrop. That’s none other than Onimusha: Way of the Sword, by Capcom! #TheGameAwards

Way of the Sword hasn’t been disclosed yet, but based on the trailer, it appears to stick to this theme. The most recent major installment in the series was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, released back in 2006. Since then, only a mobile game and a remastered version have been made available.
