One Punch Man Season 3 director deactivates his social media due to harassment

Okay, so this is kinda crazy. The director of One Punch Man Season 3 actually deleted his X (Twitter) account! Apparently, a lot of fans were really upset with how the animation looked in the new episodes, and he just couldn’t deal with all the negativity. It’s a bummer when things like this happen, especially for a show we all love.

When One Punch Man’s first season premiered in 2015, it quickly gained popularity, with viewers especially impressed by its stunning visuals and high-quality animation, whether during action sequences or quieter moments.

The anime gained a reputation for its beautiful, smooth animation. That’s why fans were so let down when the second season arrived in 2019 with noticeably lower quality.

The shift in animation style happened because the show moved from one studio to another. The first season was handled by Madhouse, a well-known studio responsible for popular anime like Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, and Hellsing Ultimate.

The second season of One Punch Man was animated by J.C. Staff, a studio famous for popular anime like Azumanga Daioh, A Certain Magical Index, and Date A Live III. However, many fans were disappointed with the animation style in season two, finding it didn’t live up to the quality of the first season, which led to criticism and confusion.

J.C. Staff took over production for the third season, but unfortunately, it hasn’t lived up to fans’ expectations. Many feel it’s similar to the issues seen in season two, and the negative reaction has been so strong that the director has publicly responded.

One Punch Man director deletes Twitter/X over “rage baiting” comments

Shinpei Nagai is directing the third season of One Punch Man. He’s also known for his work on shows like Psycho Pass and Vatican Miracle Examiner.

After facing a lot of criticism about the current season of One Punch Man, creator Nagai announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he’s deleting his account due to the intense negative reaction.

I have some bad news,” he started. “A few of my followers are pretending to be friendly but are actually trying to provoke arguments, so I’ve decided to delete my account.

I’m deeply disappointed by recent actions, including misrepresenting my words, attempting to get me to break confidentiality agreements, and profiting from my work. Despite my genuine dedication to the fans, I’ve realized that I can’t continue working on this project under these circumstances.

Honestly, it really gets to me when I see true fans getting hurt the most. I just can’t stand it when people try to damage the reputation of the people working so hard, or when others try to make money off the difficulties the creators are facing by spreading negativity. It feels like a total betrayal.

He said he won’t be making any more accounts on X, explaining that using the platform is seriously affecting his mental health.

“To the fans who have been truly kind to me, I want to express my gratitude and apologies.

It was truly enjoyable,” he concluded.

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for people working in anime to have to step away from social media because of negative reactions. It’s hard to say exactly how many anime creators have experienced harassment, threats, or other harmful behavior online.

After the popular series Attack on Titan was released, its creator, Hajime Isayama, received more than 1,000 death threats. The voice actress for the character Mikasa Ackerman also faced a serious threat that resulted in the perpetrator being arrested.

This recent comment from Nagai comes after he previously spoke in September to defend the show’s visuals. At that time, he asked fans to stop harassing the team and repeatedly asking questions he couldn’t answer because of confidentiality agreements.

Honestly, things aren’t looking great. I’m a big fan, but even I was surprised to see the new season of the anime actually got a lower rating than the recap episodes! That’s never happened before, and it doesn’t seem like the criticism is going to die down anytime soon.
