The new trailer for One Piece season 2, now titled “Into the Grand Line,” heavily features the organization Baroque Works. We see characters like Mr. 3 with his wax abilities, Miss Valentine with her parasol, and the artist Miss Goldenweek. The trailer also gives fans the best look yet at Vivi, who is portrayed by Charithra Chandran from Bridgerton.
The new actors are welcome additions to the live-action One Piece series, but the minor villains from Baroque Works aren’t powerful enough to be considered among the strongest characters in the entire One Piece story.
So far, the strongest characters in the Netflix series have been Luffy, Garp, Shanks, and Mihawk. However, season 2 promises to shake things up with some important new additions that weren’t featured in the trailer. Despite this, the trailer does briefly introduce one of the most powerful characters in the entire One Piece story – you’ll have to look closely to spot them!
One Piece’s Season 2 Trailer Briefly Shows Dragon’s Powers
In the official trailer for the second season of Netflix’s One Piece, around 1 minute and 16 seconds in, a tall tower is destroyed in a burst of sparks and electricity. Fans believe this tower is the execution platform from the very first episode of One Piece, where Gold Roger was executed. If so, the lightning shown could be a display of the Devil Fruit powers belonging to Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Dragon.
The manga by Eiichiro Oda reveals that season 2 of One Piece will feature a scene where Buggy and Alvida work together to capture Luffy at the top of the execution tower in Loguetown. They almost succeed in killing him, but Luffy is saved when a lightning strike hits the tower, causing it to collapse. Luckily, Luffy’s rubber body protects him from any serious injury.
Luffy believes he survived thanks to luck, but it’s highly likely his father, Monkey D. Dragon, used his powers to secretly protect him.
Fans are still trying to figure out what kind of Devil Fruit power Dragon has in One Piece, as it hasn’t been revealed in the manga yet. While someone else already uses the lightning fruit ability, it seems more likely Dragon can control the weather or create storms. Whatever his powers are, this scene in the live-action One Piece season 2 seems to be the first time we see them in action.
How Powerful Is Monkey D. Dragon, Really?
Many One Piece fans often talk about Dragon’s lack of direct involvement in the main story. Aside from the events at Loguetown, he hasn’t appeared even during major events like the freeing of Arabasta and Dressrosa, the huge Summit War, or the recent arrival of the God Knights on Elbaf.
Dragon’s true power remains unknown in One Piece, but most fans agree he’s easily one of the ten strongest characters. Being the son of Garp and father of Luffy explains his incredible strength, as power clearly runs in the family. But even if you ignore his lineage, Dragon leads the Revolutionary Army and is the Marines’ most wanted criminal, proving his immense capabilities.
Considering Dragon commands a rebel army and the World Government considers him a major threat, it’s reasonable to assume he’s an incredibly powerful fighter, living up to his fearsome reputation.
Considering the story’s direction, it’s clear that Eiichiro Oda is holding back Dragon to be a major player in the very final fights of One Piece, suggesting he’s incredibly powerful. We’ll get a first look at his abilities in season 2 of the anime, but fans can likely expect to see Dragon at his full potential around season 22.
