One Piece: Netflix Live-Action Show’s Season 3 Receives Exciting Update

One Piece Season 3 has received an exciting update.

Netflix released its live-action adaptation of One Piece in 2023. The series is based on the popular Japanese manga One Piece, created by Eiichiro Oda in 1997. The manga was previously turned into a long-running anime series that started in 1999 and now has over 1,000 episodes.

The latest season of One Piece, called Into the Grand Line, became available on Netflix earlier this month. Netflix has already confirmed the show will return for a third season, renewing it back in August 2025.

What is the update on One Piece Season 3?

According to co-showrunner Joe Tracz, the casting for Season 3 of One Piece is nearly complete, and filming has already been underway for two months, he told The Hollywood Reporter.

As a big fan of One Piece, I was following the production news closely. Apparently, Matt Owens and Steven Tracz were both running the show for Season 2, but Owens has moved on to other things. Now, for Season 3, it’ll be Tracz and Ian Stokes taking the lead as co-showrunners. I’m curious to see how this change impacts the show’s direction!

Viewers are likely familiar with Ian’s contributions, even if they don’t realize it, as he’s been with the show since the very beginning alongside Matt and Steve. He was integral to building the show from the ground up, and it felt natural for him to take on more responsibility because he understands every aspect of it. He has a remarkable memory of the show’s history and has consistently supported us on set in Cape Town each season. He’s an incredibly experienced and valuable colleague. We’re building on the strong foundation of cast and crew that Matt and Steve established in season one, and as we begin season three, we all feel a responsibility to continue that legacy, even with some changes in personnel.

Xolo Maridueña and Cole Escola have already been confirmed to join the cast of One Piece for its third season.

Tracz shared their enthusiasm for Cole, recalling a collaborative theater project they did together in 2011 where Cole performed a reading of Tracz’s work. They’ve been eager to work with Cole again ever since, much like with Katey and David. When the opportunity arose, Tracz felt the role of Bon Clay was a perfect fit. While the casting for season three has already been announced, Tracz expressed excitement for audiences to see Cole’s interpretation of the character.

Season 3 of One Piece doesn’t have a release date yet. You can currently watch the first two seasons on Netflix.
