One Piece Live-Action: Why Bartolomeo Is In Season 2 In Loguetown Is Due To His Hidden Presence There In the Anime

In Season 2, Episode 1 of the live-action One Piece series on Netflix, Bartolomeo surprisingly showed up during the Loguetown Arc—earlier than he was originally introduced in the anime. The new season also featured several characters not seen in Season 1, including Miss Wednesday and Miss All Sunday (Nico Robin), as well as the villain Mr. Crocodile.

I was so excited to finally meet Bartolomeo in the latest episode! This green-haired, slightly toothy pirate immediately became Luffy’s number one fan when the Straw Hats crossed paths with Buggy the Star Clown and his crew. It was a really fun introduction!

So Why Is Bartolomeo in One Piece Season 2?

It’s surprising to see Bartolomeo appear in the second season of One Piece, as he isn’t introduced until much later in the manga and anime versions of the story.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, often connects characters and events throughout his manga and anime by referencing the past. The live-action series was able to build on this by visually showing those past events, creating a richer and more connected story.

Bartolomeo’s debut in One Piece Season 2 was significant because of his backstory revealed during the Dressrosa Arc. He mentioned being present in Loguetown at the same time as the Straw Hat Pirates, adding context to his character and connection to their journey.

Bartolomeo saw Luffy almost get executed by Buggy, on the very same platform where the legendary Gol D. Roger met his end. This event made Bartolomeo a huge fan of Luffy, and it motivated him to leave his life of crime and become a pirate instead.

Bartolomeo’s early appearance is intriguing, much like how Season 2 of One Piece hinted at the future development of Luffy’s Gear 5.

When Was Bartolomeo Introduced In the One Piece Manga & Anime?

Bartolomeo first appeared during the Dressrosa storyline, quite a while after Luffy’s adventures in Loguetown. He later told Luffy that he had actually witnessed Buggy and Alvida’s fight with the Straw Hat Pirates when they were in Loguetown.

Bartolomeo was first introduced in the manga (chapter 705) as a gladiator in the Corrida Colosseum, where the audience didn’t like his forceful behavior. The anime showed his debut in episode 636, with the same introduction of him entering the colosseum battle.

Bartolomeo is a huge fan of the Straw Hat Pirates, and his dedication shows in everything he does. He’s incredibly loyal, even risking his own safety to protect Luffy, Nico Robin, and the rest of the crew. He even played a key role in defeating the villain Donquixote Doflamingo and helping the Straw Hats succeed.

When Exactly Was Bartolomeo In Loguetown In the Anime?

Bartolomeo doesn’t appear on screen during the Loguetown Arc in the One Piece anime because he hadn’t been created yet by the author, Eiichiro Oda. He was first shown briefly in the background during a flashback in episode 633, and officially introduced in episode 705.

We later learned about this character’s time in Loguetown through flashbacks shown during the Dressrosa Arc. These flashbacks occurred when Bartolomeo excitedly talked with Luffy about how much he admired the Straw Hat crew.

This explains the excitement around Bartolomeo’s appearance in One Piece Season 2 on Netflix. The show visually revealed details from his established backstory, suggesting that the popular Dressrosa Arc might be included in future seasons of the live-action adaptation.
