Season 2 of One Piece arrives on Netflix next week, and a recently released trailer has revealed the first glimpse of the new villain, Wapol.
Wapol is the main villain in the Drum Island storyline of One Piece, and he’s expected to be a key character in the next season of the live-action adaptation.
In the manga and anime, he’s a harsh and unforgiving king. He gains the ability to consume and combine objects, which he uses to build strange and powerful weapons.
A quick look at Wapol in the latest trailer for Season 2 hints that characters will retain their abilities in the Netflix series, and fans are really looking forward to it.
Walpol looks “scary” and “goofy” in One Piece Season 2

Rob Coletti portrays Walpol, who appears briefly at the end of the Season 2 trailer. He’s shown fighting Luffy, wearing fur robes and sporting a determined look – and he has a surprisingly large mouth that he opens during the battle.
I was scrolling through the comments on the Wapol fight, and it’s funny how people are reacting to his transformation! One person said it was just plain wild, while another thought it was both awesome and silly. I think I agree with the person who said it’s actually kinda scary, but it totally works because Wapol himself is just such a weird character in the show.
The creators felt that portraying Wapol as truly menacing would be effective, as he’s meant to be a villain. However, because his powers are somewhat comical and the Drum Island arc is brief, his villainous side hasn’t fully come across until now. They believe this storyline finally gives Wapol the villain arc he deserves.

Fans are impressed with how Wapol’s unique appearance was brought to life in the live-action adaptation. One viewer commented on the creative way his expanding mouth was achieved, noting the use of metal allowed for a visually striking effect. Others found his large tongue unsettling but appreciated the show’s commitment to capturing his bizarre nature. Many expressed relief that the series successfully portrayed Wapol as a truly frightening character, recognizing that some powers should be genuinely nightmarish on screen. Several viewers were particularly pleased, as they thought it would be difficult to make Wapol look good in live action, but the show exceeded their expectations.
Villain is giving one fan “chills”

Fans on Reddit have also responded positively. One commenter, a fan of the original story, described Wapol as “so creepy and terrifying” in the live-action adaptation, while another shared they “got chills” watching him perform.
One fan commented that Wapol’s transformations are much stranger and scarier than they expected, and they’re excited to see how it plays out in the anime episodes.
Someone else offered a backhanded compliment, saying they were surprised Wapol was made interesting enough to actually look forward to seeing him.
