Season 3 of One Punch Man is out, but many fans have been disappointed with the animation. The issue has become significant enough that an artist who works on the popular anime One Piece has spoken up to support the show.
When One Punch Man first came out in 2015, it was a big hit. Both critics and viewers loved it, giving it perfect or near-perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes, because it stayed true to the original story and artwork.
When the show was renewed for a second season, production had to be restructured because Madhouse, the original animation studio, was too busy. J.C. Staff took over animation duties, and the second season aired in 2019. However, many fans felt the quality wasn’t as good as the first.
Honestly, I was pretty worried about Season 3 of One Punch Man. Everyone was talking about potential problems, and the first couple of episodes didn’t really reassure me. But apparently, it’s not a simple fix – a One Piece animator explained the situation is actually really complicated.
One Piece animator says One Punch Man Season 3 issue is “complex”

Vincent Chansard, a well-known animator with credits on popular shows like One Piece, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Castlevania, recently discussed the new season of One Punch Man on the KOL: Requiem YouTube channel, offering support for the animation studio J.C. Staff.
Honestly, a lot of fans immediately point fingers at J.C. Staff when things go wrong with an anime, but it’s rarely that simple. From what I’ve learned, the real issue often isn’t the animation studio itself – it’s the production committees who are calling all the shots and managing everything behind the scenes.
The discussion started when the host of KOL: Requiem praised Season 1 of One Punch Man, calling it exceptional. They highlighted the show’s boldness, direction, and animation as being truly outstanding.
Apparently, the J.C. staff authorized Jump to proceed, and it was their decision. However, it turned out to be a mistake.

Chansard quickly shared his perspective, explaining that the Japanese animation industry is incredibly challenging. He specifically mentioned that J.C. Staff, like many studios, is simply trying to make ends meet in a tough environment, and they’re currently facing significant difficulties.
Chansard also noted the increased pressure caused by online harassment of the staff on social media.
He explained he didn’t want to criticize his colleagues’ work, understanding that everyone faces pressures and makes choices based on their circumstances. Ultimately, he believes everyone in the industry is just doing their best to get by.
Chansard’s statements echo those made by Shinpei Nagai, the director of One Punch Man Season 3, who asked fans to cease harassment and repeated questioning about things he’s unable to discuss due to non-disclosure agreements.
Garou slide in Season 3 Episode 2 sparks debate
It’s unknown if the online harassment has ended, but the One Punch Man subreddit is filled with complaints about Season 3, Episode 2. Many viewers have pointed out several scenes that used static images instead of animation.
A funny moment from the show, where Garou slides down a hill, has become popular online, turning into a meme that’s sparked a lot of discussion among fans. People are sharing it in creative ways – one fan made it their computer screensaver, another compared it to a similar scene with Amai Mask, and some even say it reminds them of the intensity of Blue Lock Season 2.
One fan commented that even Amai Mask considers Garou’s sliding move to be humiliating. Another questioned if the move was actually a joke and not a serious technique, while a third simply referred to it as “One Frame Man.”
As Chansard pointed out, it’s unfair to put all the blame on J.C. Staff. Comparing Season 3 to Season 1 isn’t a useful comparison, as the studio’s capabilities have changed.
The TikTok user who made the comparison to the anime Blue Lock then shared a clip from the same episode, commenting that it looked surprisingly well-made.
It doesn’t quite live up to the first season, but that’s a tough act to follow. Honestly, it’s comparable to Season 2, which was still very enjoyable.
Expect to see some negative comments claiming Season 3 is terrible and beyond saving, but there are actually some really well-done moments within this scene.
Alright gamers, mark your calendars! The third episode of One Punch Man Season 3 drops on October 26th. While we wait for Saitama to wreck things, I’ve been checking out what else is new on Netflix this month and keeping an eye on all the other shows hitting streaming services.
