Mackenyu Maeda, who plays a character in the live-action One Piece series, is a huge fan of the One Piece Card Game – and he’s also a skilled player!
After 26 years of the popular manga, Netflix released a live-action version of One Piece. Despite some early worries, fans generally enjoyed it, and Season 2 is scheduled to arrive on March 10, 2026.
The live-action adaptation of the Straw Hat Pirates features a cast of actors who are all dedicated fans of the original story. Leading the group as the powerful swordsman Roronoa Zoro is 29-year-old Japanese actor Mackenyu.
Mackenyu’s a huge fan of One Piece, and that extends to the card game! He’s a serious player who collects valuable, rare cards and has reportedly even won a tournament.
Mackenyu flexes One Piece Card Game skills
On December 28, 2025, actor Mackenyu posted a tweet that quickly became popular. He shared how well he did at a One Piece Trading Card Game competition, finishing eighth place out of 366 players.
Although many players build decks featuring Zoro, Mackenyu surprisingly chose a Black Imu deck, which is known for being quite costly.

He won eight out of ten games during the event, with his only losses coming against another player using a Black Imu deck and a Blue-Yellow Hancock deck. This performance placed him in the top ten players for the day.
We don’t know exactly what the competition’s prize was, but Mackenyu received something incredibly special: a playmat personally signed by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece. It was an item everyone else would have wanted!
Jacob shared that Mackenyu is really into the One Piece card game and often practiced with Eiichiro Oda and his team at Oda’s home. It’s amazing considering Mackenyu only began competing in tournaments around 2023, and he’s already reached the top 8!
