The Marvel Cinematic Universe is nearing the end of its current six-year story arc, called Phase 6. This ambitious storyline, which involves multiple universes, will ultimately lead to a fresh start for the superhero franchise. While Phase 6 potentially began with “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in 2025, it’s expected to conclude within the next two years with a few upcoming movies and TV series.
With 2025 coming to a close, everyone in the movie industry is now focused on the big releases planned for 2026. IMAX recently announced that the new Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday, will be shown in IMAX theaters, but it’s not the only Marvel movie coming next year.
Even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently being filmed and is set to release on July 31, 2026, it won’t be shown in IMAX theaters. Other superhero films, like the upcoming Supergirl movie starring Milly Alcock, will be available in IMAX, with its release planned for June 26, 2026.
Tom Holland will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The movie, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, is scheduled for release in 2026. This will be the last solo film focusing on Peter Parker before the MCU moves on to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Details about the story are still secret, but Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Hulk in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Jon Bernthal, who previously played Punisher on television, will now bring Frank Castle to the big screen. Michael Mando is also returning as Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, marking his first appearance since Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Sadie Sink will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Spider-Man movie, though her role is currently unknown. Zendaya, as MJ, and Jacob Batalon, as Ned Leeds, are also confirmed to reprise their roles from all three previous Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland.
The MCU franchise is officially set to resume in January 2026 with the Wonder Man TV show on Disney+.
