So, the PS5 is turning five, which is crazy! Sony just dropped a bunch of stats about how people have been playing, and it’s really interesting. Turns out, everyone’s still obsessed with Fortnite for playing with friends online – no shock there! But what did surprise me is that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a game that launched with the console, is still the most-played single-player game. That’s some serious staying power!
Sony announced that PlayStation 5 players have collectively spent 100 billion hours playing games – a library of over 7,500 titles! When looking at playtime, Fortnite was the most popular game, followed by Grand Theft Auto V in second place. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (released in 2022) took third, surpassing five other Call of Duty games available on PS5.
For those who prefer playing alone, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the most popular game on PS5. It was a flagship title released with the console back in 2020. Following closely behind is God of War Ragnarok, a PlayStation exclusive from 2022, and in third place is Hogwarts Legacy, the newest game on this list, released in 2023.
In celebration of its fifth anniversary, the PlayStation blog shared some compelling numbers about the PS5. Notably, about 25% of PS5 owners have used at least one of the console’s 20 accessibility features. Sony put a bigger focus on accessibility with the PS5 than with previous consoles, and that commitment continued with the release of the customizable Access Controller last year.
I was so excited to hear that the PS5 has now sold over 84.2 million units! That’s a big jump from the 80 million they announced recently. It’s officially become the ninth best-selling console ever, which means it’s even surpassed the Xbox 360 – that’s pretty amazing! While it’s outselling every Xbox console to date, it still has some ground to cover when compared to other PlayStation consoles. Still, 84.2 million is a huge accomplishment!
