Sean “Diddy” Combs has started his prison sentence, having recently been moved to FCI Fort Dix after being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since September 2024. This transfer was reportedly requested by Combs and his lawyers. In addition to serving time, the 55-year-old rapper will participate in a rehabilitation program and has reportedly been assigned a job within the prison.
It’s typical for prisoners to have work assignments, and even Diddy is no exception. TMZ reports he’s been assigned to the laundry room at his new prison, where he’ll be washing and drying clothes for other inmates. This is a big change for Diddy, who previously depended on assistants for many tasks, including during his trial this summer.
This isn’t the first time Sean “Diddy” Combs has worked in a service role while incarcerated. While at the Metropolitan Detention Center, he reportedly created a six-week program to teach other inmates business and entrepreneurial skills. Letters from inmates to Judge Arun Subramanian revealed details of this program before Combs’ sentencing on October 3rd. It’s currently unclear if he will offer a similar program at his new prison.
So far, it appears that FCI Fort Dix, a low-security prison in New Jersey, is different from the MDC facility in a few ways. A major difference is that Fort Dix offers a Residential Drug Abuse Treatment Program (RDAP) that can last up to a year, helping inmates overcome substance abuse. This program was reportedly a significant factor in why Diddy and his lawyers preferred this facility. Importantly, completing RDAP can also lead to a reduction in an inmate’s sentence.
More on Diddy

After his release from prison, Diddy will face several restrictions, most notably a ban on possessing firearms.
I was really surprised to hear that Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, got a four-year prison sentence – that’s about 50 months. It came after a complicated trial this summer where the jury couldn’t agree on everything. He was found guilty of helping transport people for prostitution, but thankfully, they acquitted him on the much more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. It’s a really mixed outcome, honestly.
Right now, we don’t know much about what Combs’ daily life is like at Fort Dix. So far, information has come out about the base’s store, showing how much he’ll need to spend on things like food, shoes, and tablets. Although Fort Dix is reportedly safer than the jail he was previously in, Joe Giudice, a businessman who also served time there, said he saw gang activity and violence during his stay.
Honestly, with Diddy staying quiet and starting his sentence at Fort Dix, it’s hard to know what he’s thinking. But you know what’s wild? Suge Knight, of all people, gave him some advice – basically, keep your head down and look out for yourself. Let’s just hope Diddy can do more than just avoid trouble; I heard he needs to be careful not to ‘borrow’ anyone else’s stuff, like clothes and bedding! It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out.
