Olivia Cooke and Alden Ehrenreich Join Helen Mirren in Anton Corbijn’s Patricia Highsmith Thriller ‘Switzerland’

Filming is currently taking place in Rome for the thriller “Switzerland,” directed by Anton Corbijn. Helen Mirren plays the role of American crime novelist Patricia Highsmith, while Alden Ehrenreich and Olivia Cooke have been added to the cast, with Ehrenreich known for his role in “Oppenheimer” and Cooke from “House of the Dragon.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the release of this highly anticipated film, which draws inspiration from the Tom Ripley novels penned by Patricia Highsmith. It’s remarkable because it’s the first feature film in over nine years from the accomplished Dutch director, Antony Corbijn, who made a name for himself in the world of photography before transitioning into directing. Known for his work on music videos for bands like U2, Coldplay, and Nirvana, as well as films such as “Control,” a biopic about Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, and “A Most Wanted Man” and “The American,” I can’t wait to see what he brings to this project.

The storyline titled “Switzerland” features Helen Mirren portraying an aging queen of thrillers, who’s retired and living in Switzerland. A young literary agent named Edward (portrayed by Ehrenreich) attempts to persuade her to write one final installment for the well-known “Ripley” series. However, it quickly emerges that Edward is not as benevolent as he seems, with a hidden agenda. As they work together on the new Ripley story, the line between their real lives and the fictional world they’re creating starts to fade. The character played by Cooke in the movie has yet to be specified.

The play upon which “Switzerland” is based hails from the pen of Melbourne-based author Joanna Murray-Smith, who was also responsible for writing the screenplay.

The movie’s filming is set to shift from Rome, beginning in mid-February, to the Alpine Alto Adige-South Tyrol region of Italy, as well as Switzerland and London, based on various reports.

Switzerland” is being jointly produced by Gabrielle Tana (“Philomena”), Troy Lum and Andrew Mason from Brouhaha Entertainment, Jim Robison and Kurt Martin from Lunar Pictures, Karl Spoerri from Zurich Avenue in Switzerland, and Andrea Occhipinti from Lucky Red in Italy. FilmNation Entertainment is responsible for handling international distribution. Enrico Ballarin (“Cyrano”) serves as the Italian line producer.
