Off Campus fans have one major question after Prime Video show release window & Season 2 news

Excited about the Off Campus book series? Get ready to watch it on Prime Video! A TV adaptation is coming out soon, and it’s already been picked up for a second season.

If you’ve been online at all recently, you’ve probably heard of Heated Rivalry. This sports romance series, adapted from the popular novel by Rachel Reid, has quickly become a huge hit around the world, thanks to fans sharing it and talking about it online.

Streaming services are increasingly interested in sports content, with Netflix creating a hockey show featuring Michelle Monaghan. However, Prime Video’s new series, Off Campus, is generating the most excitement, as it seems to follow a similar winning formula to their successful show, Heated Rivalry.

The new TV show adapts Elle Kennedy’s popular book series, telling a steamy romance story centered around college hockey. It follows the relationship between a music student and the star player on the hockey team.

Off Campus fans’ one question about Prime Video series

Prime Video recently announced it’s making a second season of its new series, Off Campus – and they’re doing it months before the first season even comes out! Fans are thrilled, but they’re also wondering just how much mature content the show will feature.

If you’re new to Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series, be aware that it’s known for being sexually explicit. The five books feature detailed and graphic intimate scenes, and a strong focus on the romantic and physical connection between the characters.

BookTok’s popularity with the series is partly due to fans sharing lists of its most passionate scenes. Because the books don’t avoid explicit content, viewers are hoping the Prime Video adaptation will be equally bold.

Despite pressure to lessen the romantic and personal connections within the story, the creators of Heated Rivalry maintained those elements, which they felt were crucial. Showrunner Jacob Tierney specifically thanked Crave, the Canadian streaming service, for supporting his creative choices.

When Deadline asked if he’d faced pressure to change the story, Tierney praised his Crave executives. He said they were incredibly supportive and never asked him to soften any of the content, even though others had suggested it.

Some fans worry that a large streaming service like Prime Video might not allow the show the same creative independence it had before.

After the announcement of Season 2, a Reddit user asked how intense the show would be. They wondered if it would match the level of passionate conflict found in the source material, suggesting a potentially ‘heated’ rivalry.

I’m not sure if adapting this story as an Amazon Prime Video show would really capture everything. Plus, some key parts of the plot – like the issue Hannah is dealing with – are central to the story, so they probably can’t be removed or altered. What are your thoughts?

Someone else responded, saying they didn’t think the upcoming content would be as graphic as “Heated Rivalry.” They predicted there would be intimate scenes, but they’d likely be brief and suggestive, showing just enough to imply what’s happening.

“I would imagine they are marketing this to a more YA, college-aged audience.”

Someone else commented that the show’s tone would probably be more like a mix of Ginny & Georgia and The Summer I Turned Pretty, rather than something as intense as Heated Rivalry.

But some have highlighted comments from co-showrunner Louisa Levy, who assured Entertainment Weekly last September that the show will deliver the same level of intimacy and openness about sexuality that viewers anticipate.

Levy explained that college relationships can be different from typical first loves. Because you’re still figuring out who you are, these romances have the potential to be something deeper and more meaningful.

Compared to high school stories, this show is more grown-up and sensual. The characters are very open and comfortable with their sexuality, particularly in the first book, which forms the basis of our first season. It’s a passionate love story that also thoughtfully explores intimacy and self-discovery.

The intimate scenes this season aren’t just about passion; they also reveal important aspects of the characters’ personalities and growth.

A Reddit user shared their relief that the show won’t be toned down to a PG-13 rating, saying the creators seem to have a lot of creative freedom. They pointed out that Amazon Studios is generally more open-minded than Netflix, suggesting the show will likely be more mature without being overly graphic like some HBO programs.

Someone else commented that they don’t think the adaptation will be rated PG-13, believing the source material has enough mature content that the filmmakers will reflect that in the rating.

Honestly, comparing “The Summer I Turned Pretty” feels off to me. It’s all about stolen glances and quick kisses, but even that show delivered a pretty solid intimate scene in the finale – they knew fans were expecting it, and they gave it to us.

I don’t expect the final product to be a simple black screen, but it might use a lot of fast cuts and music, similar to what we’ve seen in other videos, instead of the more natural look of ‘Heated Rivalry’.

Someone noticed the show’s poster, featuring Hannah and Garrett kissing, and commented that it suggests the show will have some steamy scenes.

The recent Entertainment Weekly article describes the show as very sensual and embracing of sexuality, so I expect it to be that way. It likely won’t be as explicit as ‘Heated Rivalry,’ but it will still be noticeable.

When is it out?

Prime Video hasn’t announced an exact date yet, but the first season of Off Campus is scheduled to be released in May 2026.

Amazon greenlit the series in October 2024, and production began the following summer in 2025. Ordering a second season well before the first one even launches suggests the studio is confident in the show’s success.

The first season will consist of eight episodes. While the exact release date isn’t known, Amazon typically releases a few episodes initially, followed by one new episode each week.

This is just speculation – we’ll keep you posted as and when new details emerge.

Peter Friedlander, who leads global television at Amazon MGM Studios, shared that “Off Campus” delivers the emotionally powerful, character-focused stories that Prime Video viewers around the world enjoy.

Because of its dedicated fans, the compelling story it’s based on, and the talented team working on it, we always believed ‘Briar U’ had the potential to last for more than just one season.

This series takes place in the fast-paced, competitive world of college hockey and focuses on the characters’ individual stories. The incredibly talented actors have great chemistry, making the show feel genuine and believable.

We’re really pleased with how Louisa handled this new version, and we can’t wait for fans to experience even more of the love stories, strong friendships, and emotional moments that make the series so special.

Who’s in the cast?

Ella Bright will star as Hannah Wells and Belmont Cameli as Garrett Graham in the Off Campus series.

The show is wisely choosing not to rely too heavily on its actors, which is a good strategy considering the strong performances by Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams were key to the success of ‘Heated Rivalry’.

Ella Bright has appeared in shows like Legends and Malory Towers. Belmont Cameli is known for his roles in the Saved by the Bell revival and the movie Along for the Ride.

The other Off Campus cast members include:

  • Mika Abdalla as Allie Hayes
  • Antonio Cipriano as John Logan
  • Jalen Thomas Brooks as John Tucker
  • Stephen Kalyn as Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis
  • Josh Heuston as Justin Kohl
