While it’s not shocking to see many people dressing up as Huntr/x, the unexpected influence of a *Lorax* TikTok meme on costume trends is definitely strange.
Everyone’s been calling *K-Pop Demon Hunters* the movie of the summer, so I predicted we’d see a lot of kids dressing up as the characters for Halloween. And sure enough, *TODAY* just reported that the most popular costumes this year are members of the Huntr/x band, followed by the Saja Boys! I was surprised to see Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax also made the list, but I guess that’s thanks to some strange memes going around on TikTok.
Many people consider the movie *The Lorax* to be one of Dr. Seuss’s best, and it likely inspired kids to want to protect the environment. But it seems like the recent popularity of the orange Lorax costume for Halloween is now driven more by viral TikTok memes than by the movie itself.
The trend began with TikTok creator McKenna Douglas, who dressed as the animated character The Lorax – complete with a bright orange suit and large yellow mustache and eyebrows – and danced to energetic music. McKenna Douglas is gaining popularity on TikTok with over 93,000 followers, and her unique videos seem to be the reason. I wasn’t surprised to see Rumi trending – I even saw someone cosplaying as her on a motorcycle over the summer. It’s great that fans are also embracing the Saja Boys. I’m already anticipating a lot of funny “Soda Pop” costume posts online!
I discovered some new costume trends on this list, like Labubu and Derpy the Tiger. It’s great to see Elphaba from *Wicked* gaining popularity this Halloween, especially since the movie was so popular last year – kids will love dressing up as the magical character! And then there’s The Lorax… it just proves how much influence even strange internet memes can have.
Everyone predicted *K-Pop Demon Hunters* would be popular for Halloween, but I was surprised to see *The Lorax* trending as a costume.
