As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can say that the success of Octopath Traveler and its sequel is nothing short of astounding. I remember playing the original back on the Switch and being captivated by its unique blend of old-school JRPG charm and modern mechanics. To see it surpass 5 million units sold is a testament to Square Enix’s ability to create timeless games that resonate with players.
According to recent reports, the global sales of both ‘Octopath Traveler’ and its sequel, ‘Octopath Traveler II’, have exceeded a total of 5 million copies.
Previously, Square Enix shared that the original “Octopath Traveler” had surpassed 3 million sales by September 2022, when the sequel was unveiled. As of June 2023, it was mentioned that “Octopath Traveler II” had sold a million copies. Since these releases, both games have been made accessible on additional platforms (the original game on PS4, and the sequel on Xbox).
To commemorate the milestone, Square Enix shared a new artwork by artist Rika Okazaki.
