Octopath Traveler 0: All Battle-Tested Equipment Locations

Octopath Traveler II features nine unique pieces of powerful equipment called “Battle-Tested Equipment.” Like in other Octopath Traveler games, these items are among the strongest you can find.

If you’ve collected all eight weapon types from the Path Actions but haven’t unlocked the “Battle-Tested Gear” trophy or achievement, you might be wondering what’s going on. It’s not a bug! The reason is likely that you’re still missing the Battle-Tested Shield, which is earned differently than the other equipment.

If you’re looking for the locations of the eight Battle-Tested weapons, here’s a list. All of these can be found by completing level 60 Contend Path Actions.

  • Battle-Tested Axe – Great Architect in Valore’s Main Boulevard
  • Battle-Tested Bow – Tottering Old Man in Emberglow’s East District
  • Battle-Worn Tome – Master of Books in the Theatropolis library
  • Battle-Tested Spear – Energetic Old Woman in an eastern house in Rippletide
  • Battle-Tested Dagger – Powerful Pauper in the Cragspear Slums
  • Battle-Tested Staff – Reflective Grandma in the Clearbrook Graveyard
  • Battle-Tested Fan – Sandcat Dancer on the NW side of Sunshade
  • Battle-Tested Blade – Former Warrior in the Castle Square of Shepherds Rock

The ninth item you can acquire is the Battle-Tested Shield. You’ll find it available through a special Trade List at Ludo’s shop in Wishvale – specifically, you need to access the ‘Backdoor’ Trade List to get it.

To unlock the Backdoor Trade feature, you’ll need to have one of these characters working at the shop in Wishvale:

  • Harbor Black Market Merchant – found in the Grandport markets, requires Bouillabaisse to invite.
  • Desert Labor Supervisor – found on the SE side of Sufrataljah, requires Sausage Stew to invite
  • Grumpy Old Woman – found in the center house in Berecain, requires Bean Salad to invite, as well as starting Bestower of Fame ch. 3

After adding one of these characters to your Wishvale shop, just keep playing the Trade game until the Battle-Tested Shield shows up in the shop’s available items. The shop’s selection changes after a few battles, and you’ll see a notification on the map when it’s updated. Keep in mind that the Battle-Tested Shield is a rare item. To improve your odds, you can also add the Octopus Traveler to your shop. You can find and recruit him from the Desert Island in the Outersea, but you’ll need the Animal Whisperer bonus, which you get from Wishvale’s Sacred Flame Dais.
