The Kansas City Chiefs have had a tough 2025 season. After losing Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles, the team experienced both good and bad moments. Things came to a disappointing end this past Sunday with a loss to the San Diego Chargers, which meant they wouldn’t make the playoffs. Adding to the setback, quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL. Now, tight end Travis Kelce is reflecting on the season’s events.
What Did Travis Kelce Say About The Chiefs’ Season?
Travis Kelce has always been direct about football, and particularly about his own performance. He continued that pattern recently on his podcast, New Heights, while talking with his brother, Jason. Kelce didn’t hide his frustration about the Chiefs missing the playoffs – something they haven’t experienced since 2014 – and even used a strong expletive to express how upset he was. However, he also offered a sensible and balanced perspective on the situation.
Things are definitely tough right now, but it’s a new experience for me, so I’m just focused on giving everything I have and helping my teammates win. That’s really my approach – it’s about honoring the commitment you make when you get this opportunity. You’re living out a childhood dream, something a lot of people never get to experience. Ultimately, we’re all here to win championships and compete in the playoffs, but simply being in the NFL is an incredible gift.
Losing is an inevitable part of sports, at any level. It’s true that you can’t have success without experiencing failure. While Travis Kelce is understandably disappointed with the season, his acceptance that setbacks come with chasing a lifelong dream shows he has the heart of a true athlete, in my opinion.
Travis Kelce Hypes Up Patrick Mahomes Following His Injury
With only three games remaining in the season, Travis Kelce and his team are dealing with a lot, including the injury to Patrick Mahomes. Jason Kelce pointed out that this type of injury could keep Mahomes out for up to nine months, but Travis remains optimistic about his friend and teammate’s recovery. He also sent well wishes to other injured players in the league.
It was tough losing our quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. He’s a key player and a leader on our team, and he unfortunately tore his ACL. It’s always hard to see teammates get injured. We had several players hurt during the game, but we kept fighting and gave it our all.
Despite trying to stay positive, the pain of losing a teammate like that doesn’t disappear easily. Travis Kelce explained that seeing his quarterback injured felt surreal, and simply said it was awful. However, he also shared that Mahomes’ surgery was successful and he expects the three-time Super Bowl MVP to come back strong.
He’s a true fighter. This player has overcome every challenge thrown his way, earning him championships, and he’ll overcome this one too. That’s just his nature – he’s incredibly fearless when it comes to football, and he’s determined to return even better than before.

Someone made a brilliant observation about Travis Kelce after Lena Dunham attended a Chiefs game, and it’s completely changed how I view things!
Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have become close friends both on and off the football field. They clearly enjoy a genuine friendship, often playfully teasing each other – in fact, Mahomes was initially skeptical when Kelce mentioned he was dating Taylor Swift! Given how close they are, it’s heartwarming to see Kelce publicly supporting Mahomes, especially as the season winds down.
Looking ahead, it’s not just about the Chiefs’ remaining games, but also Travis Kelce’s future with the team. While he decided to return last year, many think he might retire after this season. His growing interest in Hollywood and his relationship with Taylor Swift add to the uncertainty. Kelce has stated he’ll finish out the remaining games despite recent challenges, which is commendable.
