NXT’s ‘New Year’s Evil’ Draws Show’s Biggest Viewership in Five Years

On January 7, the NXT “New Year’s Evil” event attracted the highest television audience for the WWE developmental brand in more than half a decade.

Based on Nielsen statistics, “New Year’s Evil” attracted roughly 957,000 total viewers between 8 and 10 pm on The CW. This demographic also included around 341,000 adults aged 18 to 49. Notably, this is the highest viewership for NXT since it was last aired on USA Network in September 2019. Moreover, it represents the highest viewership for the show since its move to The CW in October 2024, surpassing the 895,000 viewers it had on its debut on that network on Oct. 1.

The roots of ‘New Year’s Evil’ can be traced back to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. During this event, several exciting bouts took place. For instance, Giulia clinched the NXT women’s championship by defeating Roxanne Perez, while Stephanie Vaquer emerged victorious against Cora Jade. Furthermore, Kelani Jordan claimed the NXT women’s North American championship after defeating Lola Vice, Cora Jade, and Lola Vice in a four-way match. Oba Femi also made history by defeating Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe to secure his first NXT championship title. To add more excitement, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson graced the show with his presence, delivering a powerful promo in the ring to close the night.

NXT is the creation of Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who now holds the position of WWE’s Chief Content Officer. At present, it is supervised by Shawn Michaels, a WWE Hall of Famer renowned for his exceptional wrestling career in the ring.

The excellent reviews for NXT emerged shortly following WWE’s official transition of their prime-time “Monday Night Raw” to Netflix, where the premiere episode aired live from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, CA on January 6th. Notably, Johnson was part of several segments during that particular show.
