Now You See Me Franchise Might Be Getting The Series Treatment

The new movie is coming to cinemas next month, and Lionsgate is already thinking about creating a spin-off series to continue the story.

Producer Bobby Cohen has confirmed they’ve been talking about creating a TV series. However, the project will only happen if they can develop a strong and compelling idea. Cohen explained that they don’t want to simply stretch the movie’s plot into a longer format. Instead, they’re aiming for something completely new and different.

Cohen described a possible storyline for the show. He’s met many magicians who often begin as apprentices or work behind the scenes for famous Vegas performers. He suggested a plot where a well-known magician is murdered, and his four assistants immediately become the main suspects.

Cohen explained that the characters will need to rely on magic to clear their names and uncover the true culprit. He added that they aimed to create something that felt connected to the original source material, but wasn’t a direct copy. While he couldn’t confirm the series was officially happening, he expressed his enthusiasm for the franchise and its lasting impact.

We really revitalized interest in magic, and I think a TV series would be a great way to build on that. It’s rewarding to hear from young magicians who say this franchise inspired them to learn the art, and I believe expanding into television would be a natural and exciting next step.

Now You See Me Was A Massive Box Office Success

The movie series started in 2013 with the film Now You See Me. The story centers around a group of illusionists, known as The Four Horsemen, who commit daring heists and share the stolen money with the people watching. Meanwhile, an FBI agent and an Interpol detective try to figure out how they’re doing it, creating a suspenseful chase to solve the mystery.

The movie starred a talented cast including Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, and Mark Ruffalo. Although critics had varying opinions, the film performed very well at the box office, grossing $351.7 million globally. It was followed by a sequel, Now You See Me 2, in 2016, and another installment, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, is planned for release.

hits theaters worldwide on Nov. 14.
