The movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” keeps raking in success at the box office, and it has moved up to be actor Jim Carrey‘s second highest-grossing film worldwide.
The latest installment of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has amassed a total of $446.7 million worldwide, making it Jim Carrey’s second highest-grossing movie, trailing just behind Bruce Almighty ($484.6 million) according to data from Cartoon Base.
Jim Carrey has also starred in some highly successful films such as “The Mask,” which grossed approximately $351.6 million (unadjusted for inflation), “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” with earnings of around $347.2 million, and “Batman Forever” that made about $336.6 million. These figures do not account for changes in value due to inflation.
In a remarkable turn of events, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is not only entertaining fans worldwide but also contributing to the financial success of actor Keanu Reeves. Interestingly, the third Sonic film has surpassed the earnings of any John Wick movie in the U.S. when it comes to box office receipts.
In total, the three Sonic the Hedgehog films have amassed over $1 billion in earnings, and another movie is set for release in 2027. Whether Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik remains undecided at this point, but the actor has hinted that he might be open to returning.
In the United States, the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has surpassed an impressive milestone of $200 million in earnings, making it only the second video game film to achieve this feat, with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” being its fellow record-holder.
2025 promises a variety of movie adaptations based on popular video games. On April 4, look forward to “A Minecraft Movie”; then, on the 25th, we have “Until Dawn”. Later in October, prepare for “Mortal Kombat 2” and finally, in December, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” will be released.
