Warning! Spoilers ahead for Fire Country season 4, episode 4, “Like a Wounded Wildebeest”.
The show Fire Country saw some important cast members leave during its fourth season, and it’s now clear why. The series, which focuses on first responders, returned to CBS a bit later than usual in the 2025-2026 TV season. This came after a season opener marked by a couple of difficult events. Soon after the end of season three, news came out that two actors who had been with the show from the beginning were leaving.
Billy Burke and Stephanie Arcila are leaving their roles as Vince and Gabriela on Fire Country. These departures were foreshadowed in the season 3 finale, which focused on the devastating Zabel Ridge fire. The show revealed the death of the Leone family’s patriarch during a failed rescue, a plot point teased in trailers for season 4. To add to the dramatic season return, the episode also ended with Gabriela making the decision to leave.
Just after losing Vince and Gabriela, Fire Country is facing another difficult departure – Audrey. Looking back at these cast changes, it’s becoming clear there’s a story-driven reason behind them.
Fire Country Season 4, Episode 4 Effectively Rebuilds Bode, Jake, & Eve’s Friendship
After Vince died and Gabriela left, Bode turned to Audrey for support. While he’s stumbled at times, particularly when dealing with urges to use drugs again, Audrey had mostly been a positive influence. The issue is that Audrey is also trying to stay sober, and being with Bode is making her recovery much harder.
In the latest episode of Fire Country, Jake and Eve both contact Bode regarding both Vince’s letter and the news about Audrey. Though the show doesn’t show what happens next, the recent hardships faced by Station 42 have reconnected the show’s original group of friends. As Bode pointed out, with Audrey now gone, he’s relying on those long-standing friendships for support and companionship.
Now that Bode has Manny back, especially with his return to the station, his connection with Jake and Eve has evolved. Because they’re all around the same age, they share similar life experiences and viewpoints, which makes them a strong support system for one another.
Why Bode’s Bond With Jake & Eve Is Fire Country’s Most Important Relationship
Bode, Jake, and Eve were friends long before the events of Fire Country began. Their falling out after Riley’s death was actually central to the show’s story. As the series progresses, they’ve slowly become friends again, particularly as Bode worked to prove himself and become a firefighter. This shared history should be a key part of the show going forward, and both Eve and Jake deserve more focus on their individual stories.
These firefighters represent the future of Edgewater’s fire department. Jake is being prepared to eventually lead the firehouse, though he’ll have to wait until after Manny’s recent promotion. Eve has already demonstrated strong leadership skills while heading up Three Rock. And as a member of the Leone family, Bode is destined for great things, whatever they may be. Together, they have the potential to become the defining figures of Fire Country.
