Bob Odenkirk, known for his roles in ‘Nobody’ and an Emmy nomination, is back in action as a police officer in the new thriller, ‘Normal’. He plays a man whose peaceful town turns out to be much more dangerous than he thought. The first trailer for the film has just been released and is available to watch now.
Ben Wheatley, the director behind films like Kill List, Sightseers, A Field in England, Free Fire, and Meg 2: The Trench, directs Normal. The script is by Derek Kolstad, who also wrote Nobody and the John Wick films. Similar to Nobody, the movie stars Bob Odenkirk as an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances. Following his action-packed roles in Nobody and Nobody 2, Odenkirk now plays a sheriff whose quiet town is facing a major crisis, solidifying his status as an unexpected action star.
Featuring Henry Winkler, best known from Happy Days, and Lena Headey, a star from Game of Thrones, alongside Bob Odenkirk, Normal will be released in theaters on April 17, 2026, by Magnolia Pictures. Here’s a look at what the movie is about:
Sheriff Ulysses (Bob Odenkirk) hoped a temporary assignment to the quiet town of Normal would give him a break from problems with his marriage and the trauma he experienced on the job. But when a failed bank robbery shakes up the town’s peace, a dark secret comes to light, revealing that Normal is anything but ordinary. Soon, everyone – even his own deputies – seems to be after him, and Ulysses must team up with an unlikely group of criminals to make it through the night. And things are only just getting started, because the Yakuza are on their way.
‘Normal’ Already Boasts a Score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes
Although we won’t see Bob Odenkirk back as his action hero for a few months, his new film, Normal, had its first showing in September at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Early reviews were very positive, and the film currently has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews.
Critics have praised the film Normal, with Joonatan Itkonen of Region Free giving it 4 out of 5 stars and comparing it to a blend of Walter Hill’s directing style, the humor of Hot Fuzz, and the slapstick of Tom & Jerry. Tania Hussain from Collider awarded it an 8/10, noting that, like its main character, the film is captivating and proves Bob Odenkirk excels in action roles. Danielle Solzman of Solzy at the Movies also gave Normal 4/5 stars, calling it a funny, subversive action thriller that revitalizes the Western genre and confirms Bob Odenkirk’s surprising success as an action star.
