Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, believed the ending of Stranger Things didn’t fully explore his character’s feelings for Mike. He asked the writers to create an additional scene to address this.
In a pivotal moment for the show, Will Byers revealed his truth to his loved ones near the end of the second-to-last episode of the season.
At that moment, the character also reveals he had a crush on someone, but acknowledges they come from a different world than he does.
We understand he’s talking about Mike because of what happened in Season 4, and Mike figures it out during a speech. However, originally, this storyline wasn’t connected – until Noah Schnapp discussed it with the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers.
Noah Schnapp felt too much was left “unsaid” in Stranger Things

Honestly, something felt missing after watching, so I actually talked to the Duffer brothers about it. They were awesome enough to add a whole new scene to the finale just to wrap things up the way they should’ve! It really helped tie up that loose end.
Okay, so there’s this incredible scene – it happens when the group is climbing this huge radio tower, trying to get to the Abyss and finally confront Vecna. It’s seriously intense!
After hearing what Will said, Mike apologized. He admitted he should have been a better friend and realized he’d been too focused on himself to notice Will was struggling. He said he felt foolish and was truly sorry.
Will reassured Mike, saying, “Don’t apologize, and you’re definitely not stupid. It just took me a long time to understand things myself. I think everything unfolded as it should have – I needed to figure things out on my own. The important thing is that we’re still friends, and you’re still in my life.”

“Friends?” asks Mike. “No thanks… best friends!” And with that the buddies continue their climb.
According to Schnapp, if you encounter any problems or feel uncomfortable with something, you can talk to the relevant people, and they’ll be happy to help resolve it.
I was so glad to hear the creator said he’s happy with how things ended! Especially that last talk between Will and Mike – he said it really wraps up their story in a way that feels complete and satisfying, which is exactly what I wanted!
